How to Give Back to Our Communities | NowThis Kids

– Hi, I'm Naomi Wadler and you're watching NowThis Kids, presented by Cheerios. Believe it or not, I am
not a big fan of chores. I mean, they're not the
most fun thing to do, right? They take forever, they're super boring and I'd rather be doing
something way more fun instead. But what if everyone
stopped doing their chores? If every single person in a family decided to decline their duties, that house would not be pretty because chipping in with chores, helps keep things tidy,
clean, and organized. Now imagine if everyone in the town or state or even the whole
country, stopped helping out. Things would get messy pretty fast. It takes a group effort
to create a nice place to live for everyone in the community. But in order for us to
keep our community safe and comfortable places to exist, that means everybody has to do their part. Even if it means washing the dishes. Today, we're talking about
how to be an active member, in our communities and
why it's so important to help out whenever we can. This is Emma MacDonald. She's a volunteer at the
Fort Greene community fridge, a revolving refrigerator
that lives outside, that's full of healthy, free
food for families in need.

We talked to Emma about
the fridges mission, how she got involved with volunteering and the importance of
helping out her community. – The contents of the
fridge are for anyone to take when they need it. It's maintained by the same
community that it's used by. And it's all very local,
we all take care of it as volunteers and have a kind of schedule for checking up on it every day and making sure things
are looking good in there. People are using it, the
most important idea is that you wouldn't put anything in that you wouldn't want to
find there and take yourself, the group who organized it is really kind of creating a community amongst ourselves.

And also by getting to know
more people in the neighborhood. It's a really powerful way of making a little effort at least. – A community is a group of people who in some way or another
all have something in common. That's something could be a location, like a neighborhood, a city,
even a whole continent. Community can also refer
to a person's beliefs or religion and even
way less serious stuff like the sport teams
someone likes or the books and movies they are fans of. We're all a part of so many communities. We might not even realize we're in them, but that just means there
are a lot of opportunities for us to chip in and make them fun, accepting, and encouraging
places to live our lives. We should all think about some issues or causes that are
relevant to our community Emma's cause is food accessibility. But you can look into the
issues affecting your community and identify ways to make things better from volunteering at the local food bank, down to lending a pencil
to someone in need.

Literally any act of kindness
is a positive benefit to the community by taking a step back and seeing how much our actions have made our community better. We can motivate ourselves
to keep on helping and use these gains to encourage others around us, to chip in too. Communities are all
about the give and take. And when we help each other out, the end result is a stronger,
more loving community. – Communities are where we thrive. There are places we feel safe, surrounded by our friends and loved ones. Communities have power and as members, we all have a responsibility
to do the work, to keep them clean, safe, and supportive. Thanks for watching this episode of, NowThis Kids, presented by Cheerios. If you liked this episode,

Tasty Garam Masala | ख़ुशबूदार और बेस्ट गरम मसाला रेसिपी ।Homemade Garam Masala | Chef Ranveer Brar

Making spices is not very difficult, and understanding spices isn't so difficult either and in the next 5-7 minutes, you will learn the best recipe for garam masala in the world and with it tasting any food and knowing what spices are there and how to make it, you will understand that too Guarantee. So Namaste, I am Ranveer Brar and today we are making Garam masala and for that you will need spices Rolling and Action So firstly let's solve this problem that why is Garam Masala called garam masala Garam masala is not called garam masala because because the spices are heated or put in hot food it is called that because the spices that go in Garam masala have warming qualities meaning the spices added in garam masala they tend to heat your body this spice mix was normally had during the winter to warm the body Later, over the years it became like garam masala is any mix of spices and is called garam masala and every house started having their own garam masala, what i'm going to make, your different boxed garam masala is, K.K Garam masala which king brand is that? It is better than all of these for the body the most common ingredient for any spice mix is coriander seeds and cumin seeds every thing has to be separately roasted especially when making garam masala, and always remember that never roast it 100% because it you completely cook it then it will burn in the mixer cook it to 70-80% , dry it then put it in the mixer here it is, now I will use 2 kinds of cumin first white cumin second black cumin the black cumin is also called 'Shahi Jeera' Actually shahi jeera means the same black in Urdu is called Siyah, so from Siyah jeera it became 'Siyahi' jeera and from that shahi jeera there is nothing Shahi (royal) about the jeera (Cumin) its only 'Siyahi' so let's roast both types of cumin together Okay? Approximately 3 parts white cumin and 1 part black cumin So here the white cumin is going the body but the black cumin is giving both the body and and is giving a floral aroma too it's slightly floral let's say that this is the base of the spice mix now we need to build up the mix on this now it's turn for the fragrant spices as i said there are 2 kinds of fragrances one is earthy and one is aromatic floral and fruity smells and earthy smells Earthy smells, fruity flowery smells we'll mix them both to make our spice mix today okay? So firstly, the spices with the earthy smells which is black cardamom Black peppercorn and a little cinnamon, if stone flower if you have it then you don't need to add black cardamom, green cardamom is also fine but here we need earthy and smokiness in the mix because stone flower isn't there so that's why im using black cardamom so here is the earthy spices on one side of the plate and on the other side the fragrant spices for fragrant spices green cardamom Okay? cloves Star anise and with it mace and how can we forget bay leaves bay leaves for earthy flavors so here on this plate, one side fragrant spices and one side earthy spices and now chilies chilies i'll use these ones byadgi red chilies are my red chilies, i always use only byadgi because they have an aroma and it has colour but not a lot of spiciness, chilly is optional I add a little for the color in my garam masala but if you don't want to add then don't classically garam masala doesn't have chilies it is optional but I add it if you don't want it spicy then remove the seeds, I'm removing them and here go the rest of the spices add a little salt while roasting them this will maintain the aroma of the spices even after grinding them essential oil meaning all the flavor of the spices is all in the form of oil meaning every spice contains some essential oils in them that have the fragrance that's why tempering is done by oil that the fragrance of the spices gets absorbed in the oil, the meaning of essential oils is remember to not heat the spices too much before grinding or all the fragrance will be gone from the essential oils and you will be left with mud in the name of spice mix and you will say 'Ranveer you didn't tell us' Ranveer did tell you take care of the temperature now the spices are roasted, after around 70% cool them them churn them in a mixer don't add them like this when they are hot or else they'll become extremely hot and won't be nice, now till the spices are cooling let's talk about them If there were no spices and no value of spices in the world then the world map would be completely different That is how powerful spices are nice okay one more thing if you are making garam masala during the summer so in this much spices add around half a spoon of fennel seeds and if you are making it in the winter then add half nutmeg nutmeg provides heat to the body where as fennel is a cooling spice so to balance the weather these spices are used or else approximately the recipe of garam masala is the same and compared to this all other garam masalas are a fail done see mom will be happy today goldy made garam masala for her look are the color, I like this color a lot which is why I add the chillies, don't add if you don't want to and remember the fragrant spices you can add any meaning you can also add rose we are adding cardamom nutmeg and mace some people add different roots like Paan for the earthy tones, so the art of masala blending is purely understanding these 3 categories of spices and how to layer it body earthiness and aroma that's all that it takes to make a good masala and make this garam masala if you have the time because it's amazing

What is the Best Commercial Kitchen Hood Filter Material

One of the decisions you'll need to make
when purchasing a hood filter is what material type you want. You've got three
to choose from. You got stainless steel, galvanized and
aluminum. This, for example, is a stainless steel. It's very shiny, it's easy to clean,
and it's gonna last a lot longer than the other types. Galvanized is fine. It
works well but it will turn black or dark green very quickly, and it will
corrode a lot faster.

Once it starts to corrode it gets pits in the surface and
it's just really hard to get that grease off. The other type is aluminum. Aluminum looks good but it's very lightweight. It dents and bends very easily and if you
use any type of harsh chemical on aluminum they will almost deteriorate. So
aluminum and galvanized are very cheap. They're not gonna last very long. We're
always gonna recommend just go ahead and buy the stainless steel. They're gonna
last a lot longer. They're easier to clean and they look great. But no matter
what material type you pick just make sure it is UL listed.

UL listed means
it's gonna meet fire code and also satisfy your insurance requirements..

How to Replace a Kitchen Faucet With a Single Handle | The Home Depot

Begin by clearing out all of the
products and supplies under the sink. You should also have a shallow pan
and a couple of old towels standing by to catch any water. And since much of the job
will be done on your back, a pillow will make the
work easier to bear. If you have an electrical
outlet beneath your sink, turn off power to it before
you remove the old faucet, and restore power only after you've
tested the new faucet for leaks. Since you have to work
upside down under the sink, be sure to wear safety glasses to
protect your eyes from falling debris. You may need to use a
flashlight for better visibility inside a deep cabinet. Reach in and shut off the hot
and cold water supply valves by turning them clockwise. Depending upon the type of valve, this
may take anywhere from a quarter turn to several turns until the
water is completely off. If you don't have stop valves
already installed in your bathroom, you'll need to turn off the
water to the entire house. You might consider installing
them under the sink, so you can turn off the
water easily in the future.

Valves that haven't been used
in a while may be hard to turn. If you have difficulty, try
using a rag or a pair of pliers to improve your grip. With the water turned
off, open up the faucet handles to relieve any
pressure in the lines. To remove the old faucet, you'll
first need to go under the sink and disconnect the supply lines
that run from the faucet down to the hot and cold valves. Each supply line is connected to the
corresponding valve by a threaded nut. Use an adjustable wrench to remove each
nut by turning it counterclockwise. As you do, make sure
you stabilize the water pipe while you loosen the supply lines.

Otherwise, you could compromise
any connections behind the cabinet. It's a good idea to have
the pan ready to collect the small amount of water that will
drain out from the disconnected lines. Once you've disconnected the
water supply line on one side, repeat the process for the other side. If the valve drips, even though the
handle is turned completely off, it means you have a faulty valve. You'll need to turn off the water to
the entire house in order to replace it.

You'll need to take out the old
supply line connections to your faucet before you can remove it. On this two handle center set
faucet, the two water supply lines are connected directly to
the hot and cold valves. Because the mounting nut securing
the faucet are installed first, you'll need to unscrew the supply line
connections before you can remove them. If you're removing a single handle
faucet, all of your water connections will be part of the spout
assembly, since there are no hot and cold handles. On faucets like this where the supply
lines are built into the faucet, any mounting hardware is made to
slide directly over the lines.

Finally, your old kitchen
faucet may have a diverter. On these faucets, there
is a separate supply line that connects between the
spout and a side sprayer. You'll need to disengage
this connection before you can remove the faucet and sprayer. One of the difficulties in
taking out the old faucet is reaching up into this tight
space and gaining enough leverage to remove the connections. There are a couple of important
tools that will make this job easier. A basin wrench contains a ratcheting
head with teeth designed to grip hard to reach retaining
nuts behind the sink. The handle pivots 90 degrees
allowing you to turn it from below. This faucet and sink installer
is a multipurpose tool designed for several under
the sink applications. After unscrewing the nuts
connecting the supply lines to the hot and cold valves,
use the basin wrench to take off the nut connecting
the diverter to the sprayer hose. If you're positive you won't
be using the old faucet again, you can cut the line with
a pipe or tubing cutter.

Once you've disconnected all of
the water lines under the sink, you're ready to remove
the mounting hardware. The old faucet will be connected
to the underside of the cabinet by some type of mounting hardware. A single handle faucet will
typically have the mounting hardware connected to a single shank that
contains the hot and cold supply lines. For a two handle center
set faucet, the mounts will usually be found on the
hot and cold valve bodies. You'll need to remove all
of the mounting hardware in order to remove the faucet. If any nuts or mounting hardware
is rusted or difficult to remove, apply a penetrating oil, like
PB Blaster, to loosen it.

Give it time to soak in, and you
may need more than one application before you can get it off. With the mounting hardware removed,
the faucet should lift out. You may need to apply pressure
to break any caulk seal. When you're finished,
clean the area thoroughly around the sink with an approved cleaner
before installing your new faucet. The number and placement of the holes
in your countertop or drop in sink will determine the type
of faucet you can put in. You may have anywhere
from one to four holes. The fourth hole is typically used
for a sprayer or soap dispenser. The distance between the
holes is called the spread. And you can determine
your spread by measuring between the centers of
the three main holes. An eight inch spread on
center is the most common and is necessary to fit
most center set faucets. A center set faucet is any one
where the handles and spout are all part of one single unit.

A two handle center set has
separate hot and cold handles that are connected to the base. These fit cleanly into
the outside holes. A single handle center set faucet
has the handle connected directly to the spout. You can either mount it directly to the
countertop for a one hole installation, or use an escutcheon plate, which
will cover up the two outside holes. Another option is a widespread faucet,
where the handles and the faucet are separate individual units.

These can be installed with any spread. Finally, if you'd like
a sprayer, but you don't have enough holes
in your countertop, you might consider a pullout sprayer. These are part of the spout. And they'll pull out
and retract as needed. The remainder of this
video will show you the installation of a
single handle center set faucet with an escutcheon plate. In this case, the hot
and cold supply lines are built directly into the faucet. It also has a diverter, which
will connect to a side sprayer. Refer to the manufacturer's
instructions for the proper assembly of your new faucet. For this unit, we'll place a
faucet gasket onto the spout base. Then slide the spout base over the
supply lines and onto the faucet body. Make sure all the components
fit together properly. If you're doing a one hole installation,
you will not use the escutcheon plate. There should be separate components
supplied with your faucet if you're planning to
use this configuration.

But if you have a three
hole installation, the escutcheon is needed to
cover up the two outside holes. It should also have a gasket to
seal the gap between the escutcheon and the countertop. Place the gasket onto the
underside of the escutcheon plate. Slide it over the supply lines
and onto the shank of the faucet. Now, place it onto the mounting surface. The escutcheon should cover
the first and third holes. Then go below deck for the
remainder of the installation. For single handle faucets, the mounting
hardware usually connects to the shank below the deck. This unit has a washer that goes against
the countertop and a mounting nut with three mounting screws
that tighten up against it.

Other facets will have
different mounting hardware. And some manufacturers may have
additional hardware for thin decks. Screw the nut all the way up until
it's a half inch below the surface. Then tighten down the
mounting screws evenly until the faucet assembly is tight
against the underside of the cabinet. Before tightening
everything down completely, have someone help you make sure
the faucet is lined up properly behind the sink. A single handle faucet
has hot and cold valves that are part of the spout assembly.

In many cases, it will also have
flexible supply lines built in as well. Some faucet types have state of the art
supply lines called PECS tubing already installed as part of the hot
and cold valves of the faucet. On other faucets, the hot and
cold valves have a threaded nut. And you'll need to attach your
own flexible supply lines. This is typically a 1/2 inch male
connection coming out of the faucet. Make sure you use Teflon tape on
the threads before installing. For your single handle
faucet, the built in supply lines will come labeled as hot and cold. And you'll need to connect these to
the corresponding water supply valves. With the hot and cold water supply
lines attached to your faucet, you'll next connect the other end
of the corresponding water supply valve coming out of the wall. This is typically a 3/8
inch fitting in most homes. Take a small strip of Teflon tape and
wrap it around each of the threads.

The cold water line
from your faucet goes to the cold water supply valve, which
is typically on the right in most homes. Screw on each nut by hand and tighten
it down with an adjustable wrench. Make sure you secure the
pipe for the water supply valve running into the
wall, so you don't run the risk of damaging any connections. Many faucet styles are sold with
or without a side sprayer option. If you wish to install a separate
sprayer in a fourth outside hole, you'll need to purchase a
faucet that has that feature.

With the rubber gasket
placed onto the shank, insert the sprayer hose guide
into the fourth outside hole. From below, you'll screw the
connecting nut onto the shank and up against the
underside of the countertop. You may need to have someone hold it
from above as you tighten it down. You'll next need to feed the sprayer
hose down through the hose guide. One end of the hose should already
be attached to the sprayer head. Under the sink, connect the other end
of the hose to the faucet's diverter. This is the valve on the
underside of the spout assembly. Many connections will just
snap or slide into place. This faucet has a quick connect feature
that attaches the end of the hose to the diverter.

Your sprayer may attach
differently, so consult your owner's manual for complete instructions. With the water supply lines
connected, turn the water back on at the hot and cold valves. Test out the operation of
your faucet and sprayer. Then, carefully check to
make sure there are no leaks. If you detect a slight
drip, use a wrench to tighten the connections until the
leak stops, but do not over tighten. If you're still having difficulty, then
turn off the water, unscrew the nut, and add another layer of
Teflon tape to the threads. Reattach the supply line, tighten
it down, and turn the water back on. Make sure your connections are
leak free before proceeding. Once you've installed
your new faucet, it's a good idea to flush it out
to remove any debris that may have accumulated in the lines. Unscrew the aerator from
the shaft of the faucet. There may be a tool for this
that comes with your faucet, or you may be able to do it by hand. With the aerator removed,
turn the handle on full blast, and let it run for about a minute. Then, shut off the water
and replace the aerator.

Regular cleaning and
maintenance of your faucet will help give you worry
free use for years to come..
